US Passes VoIP bill to dial "911" in emergencies.

US passes VoIP bill

Washington - The US House of Representatives late on Monday passed a bill giving internet phone subscribers the ability to dial "911" in emergencies.

The measure reflects a compromise between House and Senate versions, and both bodies have passed separate bills on the issue with virtually no opposition.

President Bush is expected to sign the bill before the end of the week, Capitol Hill sources said.

The Senate passed the same bill last week. It is expected to be signed into law before the end of the week.
